With the beautiful Monterey Bay right outside our door, our campus is ideally located for marine research, as well as recreational diving, whale watching, hiking, fishing, and many other outdoor adventures. Whales can be seen year round here, sometimes even from shore!  Stay in the redwoods and enjoy the gorgeous coastal views and beaches of Big Sur.  Enjoy bird and sea otter watching from a kayak at Elkhorn Slough. Visit the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium located right next door to us. Look for sea stars, crabs, nudibranchs and many more species like Ed Ricketts did at the Great Tidepool in Pacific Grove, or at Asilomar, Point Lobos, and Lovers Point.

Hopkins Marine Station is located just 90 minutes from Stanford's main campus in Palo Alto, 1 hour from San Jose, and 2 hours from San Francisco.
